CWS Construction in Costa Mesa, CA | Polaris Contractors

We’re Polaris Contractors, and we provide independent CWS cabinet and millwork service throughout Costa Mesa, including the 92626, 92627, and 92628 ZIP codes. The one thing that makes our CWS work here different is that we’ve spent years watching how Costa Mesa’s marine layer and older slabs affect these cabinets long before the countertops ever go in. For CWS cabinet installation, refacing, or full kitchen remodels, call us at (855) 473-6535 and we’ll schedule a free estimate.

Why Costa Mesa Residents Choose Us for CWS Service

Most Costa Mesa homes were built between the 1950s and 1970s, and a lot of them have had CWS cabinets in the kitchen or bathroom for decades. We know these boxes, doors, and drawer hardware because we’ve pulled enough of them out of stucco tract homes to know exactly where they fail and why. Our crews are not authorized by CWS, and that’s by design – we’re an independent contractor, which means when we walk into your Costa Mesa kitchen we’ll tell you the honest truth about whether to repair, reface, or replace. We use CWS sales & service knowledge built from years of working with their Heritage oak lines, thermofoil slab doors, and maple shakers in real coastal conditions.

Rick Sondermann, our owner, grew up in Corona del Mar and has spent nearly three decades building and renovating homes along the CWS in Newport Beach and Costa Mesa coastline. He learned construction fundamentals at Saddleback College in Mission Viejo, and he’s the kind of contractor who’d rather show you exactly why a particleboard box bottom swelled than sell you a full kitchen you might not need. Do it right the first time – the second time always costs more. That’s been our operating rule since day one.

Common CWS Construction Problems We Solve in Costa Mesa

  • Thermofoil door skins peeling and blistering at the bottom edges. Costa Mesa’s cool, damp mornings and frequent dew collect on cabinet faces near exterior walls with poor ventilation. The thermofoil lifts first at the bottom corners, then the peeling creeps upward. We see this constantly in 92627 kitchens.
  • Particleboard box bottoms swelling and crumbling. Many 1950s-to-1970s Costa Mesa slabs were poured without modern vapor barriers. Moisture wicks up through the concrete, into the toe kick, and straight into the base cabinet boxes. By the time you notice the bottom shelf sagging, the particleboard has usually lost its structural integrity.
  • Raised-panel oak doors cupping and sticking. The CWS Heritage line shows up in a lot of 1980s and 1990s Costa Mesa tract kitchens. Marine-layer humidity swings make the solid oak panels expand and contract, which cracks the finish at the panel joints and eventually leaves doors that won’t close flush.
  • Drawer glides and hinges seizing or loosening. When a Costa Mesa home has a settled or cracked slab – and we see plenty, especially where newer additions tie into old footings – the cabinet frames rack out of square. Hardware that was installed level in 1985 is now binding or loose, and no amount of adjustment fixes the underlying racking.
  • Bath vanity damage from original cultured marble tops. CWS bath vanities from the 1960s and 1970s often came with cultured marble integrated tops. Decades of Costa Mesa humidity plus slab moisture breaks down the adhesive and swells the vanity base, especially in 92627 bathrooms with original ventilation.

CWS Service in Costa Mesa: What Local Conditions Mean for Your Equipment

Costa Mesa’s marine layer is not a mild inconvenience for cabinet work; it’s the single biggest driver of CWS cabinet failures we see. Because the coastal cloud deck sits over the city for much of the morning, exterior stucco and paint stay damp until midday. Any kitchen or bath remodel that involves exterior wall penetrations – a new vent hood, a bath exhaust fan, a window replacement – has to be sequenced so the stucco patch and paint cure before the next dew cycle arrives. If the patch doesn’t cure, it fails within a year, and then you’ve got moisture intrusion right behind your new CWS cabinets. We schedule exterior tie-ins for the midday dry window and moisture-test the substrate before we seal anything. We’ve applied this same weather-aware sequencing on projects across Costa Mesa service area homes, from Mesa Verde to the Westside.

On a 1958 single-story stucco tract home in 92627, we pulled out a CWS Heritage oak kitchen that had been installed in the 1980s, a project that started with CWS repair in Fountain Valley experience we brought to this job. The thermofoil faces on the upper doors had peeled at the bottom edges, and the particleboard box bottoms were swollen from slab moisture. Once we cut out the old cabinet run, we found the original slab had no vapor barrier. We installed a new vapor barrier and leveling compound before setting new CWS shaker cabinets and a quartz countertop, then refinished the adjacent stucco patch during a dry midday window so the dew wouldn’t ruin it overnight.

CWS Models & Products We Service in Costa Mesa

We work on the CWS lines most commonly installed in Costa Mesa’s housing stock: CWS Heritage raised-panel oak, CWS white thermofoil slab doors, CWS maple shaker cabinets, and CWS bath vanity ensembles with cultured marble tops. When hinges and drawer glides fail, we source OEM CWS parts when they’re still available, because the hole patterns and load ratings match the original boxes. When OEM isn’t available or doesn’t make sense, we use Blum or Grass aftermarket hardware that meets or exceeds the original spec. We stock common replacement hinges, glides, and bumpers locally so a Costa Mesa service call doesn’t stall waiting on a two-week parts order.
